Araghchi: Even an understanding with Oman will not lead to the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz

Abbas Araghchi, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, announced that the negotiations with Oman on determining the temporary route for the passage of ships in the Strait of Hormuz are continuing, and according to him, the parties are "very close to the final result".

However, Araghchi clearly emphasized that this possible understanding does not mean the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, and the Islamic Republic still ties the full reopening of this international waterway to other conditions.

He claimed that the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz depends on "compensating for the violation of the memorandum by the United States"; A position that shows that the government continues to use traffic restrictions on one of the world's most important shipping routes as a tool for political pressure and bargaining.

According to Araghchi's statements, even if an understanding is reached with Oman, what is currently on the agenda is only the determination of a temporary route for ships to pass, and there is no news of the complete reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
