A source close to the mediation process said: "Both sides have agreed to extend the deadline to the mediators." However, the exact duration of the extension has not yet been finalized and Washington and Tehran are exchanging messages through mediators to determine the new period of the ceasefire.

An initial ceasefire brokered by Pakistan was established in April, and the two sides signed the "Islamabad Memorandum" on June 17; The current deadline for the agreement ends on August 17. Negotiations to reach a final agreement later stalled over security guarantees and freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
