Lebanon's foreign minister says that normal relations with Iran's embassy in Lebanon can be resumed only when Tehran complies with diplomatic procedures.
In an interview with "Al-Nahar" newspaper, Yusuf Reji insisted on his previous decision to call the ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Lebanon an "undesirable element" and expel him: "The continued presence of the Iranian ambassador is a violation of a sovereign decision." This decision must be respected and does not accept any interpretation, exception or compromise.
On April 4 this year, the Lebanese government rejected the credentials of Mohammad Reza Rauf Shibani, Iran's ambassador to Lebanon, calling him an "undesirable element" and gave him a few days to leave the country.
However, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran did not accept this decision and the spokesperson of this ministry announced that the ambassador continues to work in Beirut.
Ismail Baqaei said at that time: "According to the discussions that were raised by the relevant Lebanese parties and the conclusion that was made, the ambassador of Iran will continue his work as an ambassador in Beirut and is still present there."
