Trump announced the "most crushing economic operation in history" against Iran.
In a post on Social Truth, US President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that Washington would launch "the most devastating economic operation ever against any country" against Iran, calling it "economic D-Day". He wrote that any country that allows its financial institutions, businesses, airports or government institutions to provide "any kind of bailout" for Iran will face heavy economic consequences. Trump specifically mentioned oil smuggling, swap lines, money transfers, exchanges, ship registries and shell companies and said these must be stopped immediately. Trump also claimed that Iran's naval and air forces have been destroyed and the country's military factories have been destroyed. These claims have not been verified by independent sources. He said that because Iran had lost the "opportunity of agreement", he had no choice but to exert more pressure and emphasized that Iran will never obtain nuclear weapons. This announcement came after the US Treasury Secretary announced last week that he was ready for "unprecedented" measures to isolate Iran economically. Trump said on Tuesday that no talks with Tehran are underway or planned. The implementation details of these measures have not been published yet. 📌 Source: ABC News and The Hill, August 19, 2026
