Sweden expelled an Iranian embassy employee over accusations of threats against Jewish centers

The Swedish government has expelled an employee of the Iranian embassy in Stockholm and summoned the country's ambassador, The Times of Israel reported, citing Swedish officials. According to Gunnar Strömmer, Sweden's Minister for Justice, Iran has for a long time carried out activities that threatened the country's security and targeted Jewish and Israeli interests. He emphasized that these actions were carried out using criminal networks.

🔹 Role of criminal networks and the Vienna Convention Swedish Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard announced that this embassy employee was asked to leave Swedish soil due to activities contrary to the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations. At the same time, a spokesperson for the Swedish Security Service confirmed that Iran continues to attempt to use proxy groups and criminal networks to carry out violent acts. The Swedish Security Service declined to provide further details due to intelligence considerations.

🔹 Background of security incidents in Sweden In recent years, several security incidents linked to Israeli interests have occurred in Sweden. In June 2024, two packages containing explosive materials were found outside the office of an Israeli defense industry company in the city of Gothenburg, and in May 2025, a shooting took place around the Israeli embassy, prompting increased security measures. The Iranian embassy in Stockholm has not yet officially responded to these allegations.
